Twice

Twice is a small fast-food chain that prides itself on high quality with low prices. The burger comes in two halves, and the food overall feels much more like an experience than anything else. In this article, we discuss what makes Twice so special and whether it’ll be able to last against bigger players moving into the space like Shake Shack or Five Guys

The “twice” is a dessert that consists of two layers of cake, one layer on top of the other. The word twice is also used as an adjective to mean “two times”. Read more in detail here: twice definition.

Friday morning. Friends Olivia and Sarah are sipping mimosas and making french breakfast in Olivia’s kitchen, dressed in flannel robes. This odd couple bonded through a shared love of R&B music and home-cooked meals (this made them realize they were not so different after all). Coffee dates that escalated into visiting Governors Island events, mid-afternoon wine breaks, and making up falsehoods about how we met (since we didn’t meet in this a cappella group). Yes, that’s how we met, and I’m not embarrassed about it.

What is french toast that has been baked twice?

If you’re perplexed by the concept of twice-cooked french toast, let me explain. French toast that has been twice cooked is basically baked french toast that has been fried in a pan first. I know it seems like you’re doing more dishes needlessly, but believe me when I say that it’s SO GOOD. Frying the challah french toast in a greased pan first makes the exterior somewhat crispy and sturdy, and finishing it in the oven for a few minutes guarantees that the french toast is cooked all the way through. You’ll have the most pillowy french toast that can handle a variety of toppings.

Tips for preparing challah french toast that has been baked twice:

Use day-old challah – Slightly stale bread is the cornerstone of every outstanding french toast. When you soak fresh challah in the batter, it will most likely come apart. If challah isn’t available, any soft yet robust bread can suffice.

Allow the batter to rest – After preparing the cinnamon batter, set it aside for 30 minutes before dipping the challah bread into it. This allows all of the tastes to blend together and is well worth the wait.

As you start sinking the bread pieces into the french toast batter, you may need to add a bit extra cinnamon. Make sure there’s enough of cinnamon in there at all times, and don’t be afraid to add more as you go!

Allow the challah slices to soak in the batter for 20 seconds on each side. You don’t want the bread to get too soggy, but you do want it to soak up all of that cinnamony deliciousness.

Brown the butter in a pan after dunking the challah bread in the batter — After dunking the challah bread in the batter, heat the butter in a skillet until it begins to become light brown. This will give the challah french toast a subtle nuttiness and enhance the taste of the whole meal.

What is the best way to serve challah french toast?

With a coating of powdered sugar and a generous drizzle of genuine maple syrup, this challah french toast is best eaten immediately away. Fresh fruit pieces, as well as whipped cream, would be lovely on top. If you’re going to the trouble of making handmade french toast, you may as well go all out with the toppings!

Ingredients

  • 1 challah loaf (day-old)
  • 1 gallon of whole milk
  • 3 eggs
  • honey (two teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille
  • salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Grease the pan with butter.
  • Garnish with fruit, powdered sugar, and syrup

Instructions

  1. Whisk the milk, eggs, honey, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt together in a pie pan until the egg is uniformly spread. Set aside for at least 30 minutes (the batter can be prepared the night before).
  2. Using a sharp knife, cut the challah into thick 1-inch slices.
  3. Dip each piece of challah into the pie plate once the batter is ready. Soak each side for approximately 20 seconds. Only fry one slice at a time to avoid the pieces becoming mushy while waiting to be cooked. If the bread absorbs too much cinnamon, add another sprinkle to the batter.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a frying pan, melt about 2 tablespoons of butter. Heat the butter on high until it starts to brown, then reduce the heat to low. Cook for approximately 2 minutes on each side of the challah French toast, or until the challah starts to brown. Overcooking the challah will cause it to dry out in the oven, where it will continue to cook.
  5. Place each piece of French toast on a baking sheet so that they touch but do not overlap. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until your home begins to smell like french toast. “It smells like a pungent odor.”
  6. Cut up your fruit, set it on top of the bread, then finish with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Serve right away. “Eat your face off,” Olivia advises.
