It had just the appropriate amount of mocha taste without being bitter.
On top, I prepared a whipped cream and cream cheese icing to match the typical tiramisu tastes (coffee and cream). The whipped cream makes it light and fluffy, while the cream cheese makes it sour and delicious.
What’s a tiramisu without a sprinkling of espresso? For a beautiful coffee finish, I used my handy instant espresso powder. These brownies have a terrific bite to them thanks to the unsweetened espresso powder. It perfectly balances out the sweetness of the brownies.

Underbake the brownies slightly — As I previously said, you don’t want these brownies to be too fudgy since they won’t hold up to the frosting. You don’t want them to be too cakey, either, since that would be sad. Insert a knife into the middle of the pan to see when it’s time to take these homemade brownies out of the oven. You’re fine to take these puppies out if it comes out mainly clean.
I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it again: let the brownies cool fully. Before icing the brownies, let them to cool fully to room temperature. The cream cheese frosting will slip right off a heated brownie if you attempt to frost it.

- 1 pound of butter
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
- 1 cup brown sugar (light)
- a single huge egg
- 1/2 cup flour (all-purpose)
- a quarter cup of cocoa powder
- DeLallo Instant Espresso Powder, 4 tablespoons

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Using parchment paper, line an 8′′x8′′ square pan. Remove from the equation.
- Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Remove from the microwave, mix in the chocolate chips, and heat for another 10-15 seconds, or until the butter and chocolate are completely melted. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
- By hand, whisk in the brown sugar and egg for 1 minute, or until the mixture seems glossy. Combine flour, cocoa powder, and espresso powder in a separate dish, then combine dry and wet ingredients.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out largely clean. Allow for thorough cooling before icing.
To make the icing
- Heavy cream should be whipped until firm peaks form in a standing mixer. Remove the bowl from the oven and put it aside.
- Whip cream cheese and powdered sugar in the same bowl until frothy, approximately 30 seconds. Reduce the mixer’s speed to low and delicately fold in the whipped cream. Mix until everything is well blended.
- Dust brownies with more espresso powder (I used a fine mesh sieve to dust!).
- Using a 9-square cutter, cut the cake into 9 squares. DEVOUR.
