Concentrate for cold brew

  • 6 oz. coarsely ground grade coffee beans
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate powder, unsweetened
  • 8 cups room temperature water
  • a straining cloth made of cheesecloth

To make the creamer


  1. Combine coffee beans and cocoa powder in a big container. Pour in the water and mix until all of the grounds are completely soaked.
  2. Cover firmly with saran wrap and poke holes at the top to let air out. Refrigerate for at least 12 hours (overnight works great).
  3. After the coffee has soaked, pour it into a second big pot using cheesecloth. Remove all liquid from the coffee grounds by squeezing them. Discard used grinds, then repeat the procedure, squeezing out any remaining sediment (this is what differentiates murky from clear coffee!). Refrigerate the mixture in an airtight jar until ready to use. In the fridge, it will last 5 days!
  4. This will yield around 7 cups of coffee concentrate. Pour it over ice when you’re ready to drink it, then top it over with the same quantity of water. This will dilute your coffee to the right strength; otherwise, you will get a strong caffeine high!
