There are two types of people in the world: those who know what Instagram is, and those who don’t. It’s a social media platform that allows users to take photos and share them for others to see. The questions about whether or not it will be able to survive without its founders still remains unanswered but this website has managed so far.
The “most instagram followers” is a list of the most Instagram-worthy foods according to an Instagram user.
New York City and I have a long-standing love affair. For 1,000 reasons, it is my favorite city on the planet. Today, though, we’ll concentrate on only one: sweets. NYC’s dessert game is great, from cookies to pies. So this winter, I went to New York City and created my own dessert-filled schedule, visiting 13 bakeries in four days.
In this piece, I showcase the highlights of my trip: New York’s Most Instagrammable Bakeries. There are brownies, ice creams, breakfast, doughnuts (so many donuts! ), and more, each one more photogenic than the last.
I purposefully avoided many of the “big name” bakeries (Dominique Ansel, Magnolia’s, etc.) since they’re virtually overrated. Instead, I concentrated on restaurants that you may or may not have heard of but that, in my view, provide some of NYC’s greatest desserts. Without further ado, enjoy your meal!
Everything is available to eat at:
Three things have become addicting to me: brownies, pizza, and the Momofuku corn cookie. Seriously, I could live happily ever after if I ate their corn cookie every day. To suggest you should go to Momofuku Milk Bar and have a corn cookie while you’re in NYC is an understatement. You must do so. I suggest the cereal milk soft serve and the legendary Crack Pie in addition to the life-changing corn cookie.
Fill your pie hole with:
Look no farther if you’re looking for the greatest pie in town. Bubby’s is a Tribeca institution, with families and celebrities alike flocking to for sophisticated comfort breakfast fare. I’m talking about one of the greatest zucchini breads I’ve ever tasted (and that’s saying a lot) and the most amazing pies cooked from scratch on a regular basis. Sour Cherry, Lemon Meringue, and more seasonal tastes like Pumpkin and Double Crust Apple are among the flavors available. SWOON.
Try not to develop a case of the shivers while you’re at:
The city’s most absurd gigantic milkshakes are served at Black Tap Tavern. It’s well worth it if you’re willing to wait up to an hour for a milkshake. I couldn’t stop sipping the Cookie Milkshake even after a day of browsing bakeries. Yurmmmmm.
Breakfast in Paris may be had at:
Maman has everything you desire in a French cafe: a rustic, French-country vibe, comfortable seating, and well cooked food. Maman was one of my favorite restaurants, from the service to the baked goods (have a cookie!) to the delicious meal. The Rabbit Hole, a brioche bun loaded with honey-roasted pastrami, comté, balsamic caramelized onions, and topped with a fried egg, as well as the Waffle Iron Hash Browns with smoked salmon and poached eggs, were fantastic (both pictured below).
Without without realizing it, become gluten-free at:
You won’t be able to tell that anything at Erin McKenna’s is gluten-free. I honestly have no clue how they make their baked items taste so amazing without gluten, from the doughnuts to the cupcakes. The lemon cake was incredible—super moist and velvety—and who can resist a Samoas donut? I’m not the one, mon ami.
Ice cream sandwiches are a must-try at:
I was having an ice cream sandwich in 30°F weather at Ice & Vice and didn’t even notice the cold. That’s how you know it’s a nice location. While the ice cream restaurant on the Lower East Side is renowned for its exotic-flavored’screams (think Crème Fraîche with Rose Petal Jam and French Roast Coffee with Chicory, Saigon Cinnamon, Condensed Milk, and Donut Truffle), their ice cream sandwiches are also pretty f***ing great. They’re also packed between BROWNIES. Yaaaas.
When I lived on the Lower East Side, I’d regularly go to Doughnut Plant on Sundays, hungover, for an iced coffee and a doughnut. This shop has a particular place in my heart, and I like their ever-changing cake and yeast doughnut combos. My personal favorite was this orange cardamom cake donut (omg), but since it was years ago and I’m not sure whether they still offer it, I can recommend the Blackout (shown below), Peanut Butter & Jam, and Carrot Cake, all of which are still available today.
Then go eat *even* more doughnuts at:
Because, let’s face it, I can’t get enough doughnuts. And, folks, The Doughnut Projects’ doughnuts are worth it. The Doughnut Project, which is situated on a lovely West Village side street, offers unique tastes such as a yeasted doughnut with sweet cream cheese icing and everything bagel spice (a little sweet and savory for ya). It was really ridiculous.
A chocolate chip biscuit may be found at:
It has to be City Bakery if you’re ordering a cookie south of 14th street. For the last 25 years, our bakery has been servicing New York City. Get the chocolate chip cookie and, if it’s cold outside, the hot chocolate with a large marshmallow!
Brunch the way the natives do it at:
After four days of eating sweets, I was looking forward to a savory breakfast at High Street on Hudson. This West Village cafe is the ideal blend of traditional and welcoming, making it ideal for brunch. On Sunday, I had brunch with a great friend and sat at a table no more than 8 inches away from the table next to us, striking up a discussion with our table neighbors and their French Bulldog, and finally eating food off each other’s plates. It was just wonderful. The Bodega Egg Sandwich, as well as the Beet Cured Salmon Bagel, were both delicious.
Brownie paradise may be found at:
To be honest, I’m shocked there aren’t more brownie bakeries in NYC. I almost feel compelled to open one up. Fat Witch’s brownies, on the other hand, are absurd. They come in a number of flavors, including German Chocolate, and are individually packed, making them too simple to take about in your bag.
