  • A brownie mix from a box: Any brownie mix from a box will do! Simply follow the package instructions to make the ideal basis for this Snickers brownie recipe.
  • Peanut butter: This isn’t your good-for-you natural peanut butter! Use Jiff or Skippy, the nice, cheap stuff.
  • Marshmallow fluff: Marshmallow fluff, oh marshmallow fluff, oh marshmallow fluff, oh marshmallow flu This is the stuff of fantasies. This fluffy, sweet spread will give your handmade nougat the right consistency! When spooning out fluffy, use a lubricated spatula to keep everything clean!

Although I like room temperature brownies, since these brownies have so many delicate layers, I suggest keeping them in the fridge. It will also help them live longer as a bonus! You can keep them in the fridge for up to a week and they’ll still be delicious.

Ingredients

for the layer of brownies:

  • 1 boxed brownie mix, made as directed on the package

To make the nougat layer, combine the following ingredients in a mixing bowl.

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter, smooth
  • marshmallow fluff, 7.5 ounces
  • 1 cup sugar (powdered)
  • salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • 1 cup unsalted roasted peanuts

for the layer of caramel:

  • 2 cups sugar (granulated)
  • 3/4 cup buter (unsalted)
  • 2/3 gallon of heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

for the layer of chocolate:

  • Dark chocolate, 12 ounces (you can use chocolate chips or chocolate bars)
  • 1 tbsp coconut butter

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9′′x9′′ baking pan with butter or oil, then line it with parchment paper on all four sides. Follow the package instructions for making brownies. Allow it cool until barely warm, then bake according to package temperature and guidelines. Refrigerate brownies for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly cooled.
  2. To prepare the nougat, combine the peanut butter, fluff, powdered sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl until well blended. It will be a thick mixture. Using your hands, spread the nougat layer evenly over the brownies.
  3. Sprinkle the peanuts over the nougat layer and softly press them down. Return the brownies to the refrigerator while you prepare the caramel.
  4. To prepare the caramel, melt the sugar in a heavy-bottomed sauce pan over medium-low heat, turning the pan gently every 20 seconds or so, until it is fully melted. Before gently melting, the sugar will begin to form clumps. Be patient and keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat as soon as it has melted and mix in the butter. The mixture will erupt in a flurry of bubbles. You’re doing everything correctly.
  6. After that, add the heavy cream and salt. Stir everything together until it’s completely smooth. Allow it chill in a small dish or cup for 15 minutes before pouring over the nougat layer. Return brownies to the refrigerator to chill.
  7. Last but not least, melt the chocolate! If you’re using chocolate bars, cut them up beforehand. Then, in 20-second intervals, microwave the chocolate, stirring after each one. Stir in the coconut oil until the chocolate has completely melted, then pour over the caramel layer. Allow it cool fully before cutting into 16 squares in the fridge!
