Sea Salt & Nutella Fudge

This easy dessert recipe puts a hit of salty sea salt and sweet Nutella in its decadent fudge. It’s the perfect way to switch up your breakfast, brunch or snack time routine!

Sea salt is a condiment that can be used to flavor food. It’s important to buy sea salt from a reputable source like Amazon or eBay. You should also make sure you are buying the right type of sea salt. Some types of sea salt don’t have the same taste as others. Read more in detail here: where to buy sea salt.

For a long time, I’ve wanted to create fudge. However, the last two times I went to the grocery store, I made the mistake of buying evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk. I wasn’t thinking the first time, and the second time I thought I should be receiving evaporated milk. So I end up with a ton of evaporated milk in my cabinet, and all I can think is, “Oh, I guess I’d better try to use it up.”

I experimented with substituting evaporated milk for sweetened condensed milk in a variety of recipes. I felt certain that I could pull it off. And I’m dubious even when I discover things online, such as the fact that evaporated milk cannot be swapped for sweetened condensed milk.

So, fast forward to now, both times the recipes were a complete failure. Miserably. I mean, it’s not like I didn’t eat it all, so who cares. However, in this sea salt and Nutella fudge recipe, evaporated milk cannot be substituted for sweetened condensed milk.

How to make fudge at home

This recipe for sweetened condensed milk fudge takes very little hands-on preparation. The Nutella fudge, on the other hand, requires a lot of time in the fridge to set correctly! To create homemade Nutella fudge, just follow these steps:

Melt the ingredients — In a large heatproof dish, combine the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, bittersweet chocolate chips, Nutella, and butter, then lay the bowl on top of a saucepan of boiling water (the bowl should not contact the water’s surface). Stir the ingredients constantly until they’ve melted and everything is well blended.

Pour the melted fudge mixture onto a buttered baking pan and place it in the refrigerator to chill. Sprinkle the coarse sea salt on top after approximately an hour (if you sprinkle the salt on too soon it melts into the fudge instead of resting on top). Chill the fudge for another hour or until it’s completely set after adding the salt.

Slice and serve — Run a big knife under hot water before cutting into this sea salt and Nutella fudge to make it easier to slice. In between slices, you may need to clean the fudge residue off the knife!

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille
  • Bittersweet chocolate chips, 8 ounces (you want to use a good quality)
  • 1 cup room temperature Nutella
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • salt with a coarse texture
  • For greasing the pan, use extra softened butter.

  1. Butter the bottom and sides of an 8-inch baking pan. Using parchment paper, line the pan, allowing a 2-inch overhang on the sides.
  2. Combine sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, bittersweet chocolate chips, Nutella, and butter in a medium glass bowl.
  3. Set the bowl over a medium saucepan of gently simmering water to create a double-boiler. The water level should be low enough that the bowl’s bottom does not come into contact with it. Stir until the chocolate chips have completely melted and the liquid is completely smooth.
  4. Fill the prepared pan halfway with the ingredients and level the top with a spatula. Refrigerate the fudge until it has hardened.
  5. I sprinkled coarse sea salt on top after approximately an hour of cooling. Refrigerate the fudge for another hour (making the minimum time needed to chill 2 hours.)
  6. Lift the fudge out with the overhanging parchment paper. Remove the parchment paper from the pan. Cut the fudge into 3/4-inch squares using a knife that has been washed in hot water and dried. Keep in an airtight jar in the refrigerator.
