Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered baking soda
  • a half teaspoon of salt
  • 2/3 cup sugar, white
  • 6 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 gallon of milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, gently chilled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound of brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 quarts of hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 2 tablespoons cocoa.
  3. Mix in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until everything is well blended. Don’t worry if the batter is quite thick; this is how it should be! In the bottom of 6 8-ounce ramekins, evenly spread the batter.
  4. Combine the brown sugar and the remaining 4 tablespoons of cocoa in a small bowl. Distribute the brown sugar mixture equally over the batter in the baking dish (approximately 3 tbsp each ramekin).
  5. Then, on top of the contents of the ramekins (1/4 cup each), add the boiling water. Do not combine.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 15-20 minutes. Warm it up before serving!
