Mint Chocolate

Hello, mint chocolate-covered Oreos, my new favorite Christmas treat. They’re the simplest and most beautiful cookies you’ll create this holiday season. They’re so basic that there’s not much to say about them; the cookie speaks for itself!

I held a poll on Instagram to discover whether people liked white chocolate or sea salt as a topping. And the solution was a true toss-up! As a result, I’ve included sea salt and white chocolate as toppings. If you want to make it even more festive, sprinkle the cookies with crushed peppermint candies for an additional festive treat!

It all began when I texted Rebe, asking for some cooking ideas. She suggested that I create Oreos with chocolate coating. “WONDERFUL IDEA!” I exclaimed as I dashed to the supermarket for supplies. When I got home, I made a batch of these puppies and sent her a photo. “I meant baking your own Oreos,” she replied via text. Whoops. Oreos baked from scratch will be kept for a later day.

In terms of the chocolate, I had some leftover chocolate from Chocoley and thought it would be a great dish to utilize their dipping and coating chocolate in. It came out well without the need for tempering. I strongly advise anybody interested in doing chocolate coating in the near future to give their goods a try! I’ve had a lot of success with them.

How to create Oreos with chocolate coating

Although chocolate-covered Oreos are simple to prepare, I learnt a few things when creating a large quantity. To begin with, you don’t want to burn your chocolate. If you believe you’ve scalded the chocolate even slightly, toss it away. To simply melt the chocolate, place it in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring every time the timer dings. You may melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in a heat-safe dish over a pot of water if you want to be extra cautious.

I suggest using two forks to cover the Oreos with chocolate (your hands will get super messy otherwise). Once the Oreos are completely covered in chocolate, gently scrape the bottom of each cookie against the side of the chocolate dish. This will avoid excessive spillage and make your chocolate-covered Oreos seem much more professional.

Coat the Oreos five at a time in the chocolate, adding the toppings after each tiny batch. If you wait until the end to decorate all of the cookies, the chocolate will have solidified on the first few and your decorations will fall off!

Ingredients

  • 20 Oreo biscuits (I used Double-Stuffed)
  • Chocoley’s Bada Bing Bada Boom Dipping & Coating Formula (I used Chocoley’s Bada Bing Bada Boom Dipping & Coating Formula) 1/2 pound semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • a half teaspoon of peppermint oil
  • Decorate with sea salt, white chocolate, or anything else!

Instructions

  1. On a work area, spread wax paper or aluminum foil. Place a cooling rack on top of the paper to keep it cool.
  2. Melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals in a microwave-safe dish, stirring after each heating. Stir in the peppermint essence after the chocolate has melted.
  3. Dip each cookie in the mint chocolate, making sure it is equally coated on both sides. To avoid extra leaking, lightly scrape the bottom of one Oreo against the bowl. To dry, place on a cooling rack. Dip your finger into the chocolate, then dab the chocolate into the faulty surface like a chocolate band-aid if you detect flaws in your chocolate-covered biscuit.
  4. Repeat with the remaining 4 cookies, then sprinkle with sea salt or drizzle with white chocolate. This should be done every time you cover 5 cookies in chocolate to ensure that the toppings adhere to the chocolate before it sets.
  5. Continue dipping and decorating until all 20 cookies are finished! Allow to cool before eating! Cookies may be kept for up to a week in an airtight container.
