In my view, there are few culinary pairings that compliment each other better than apples and maple syrup. Maple syrup’s rich, strong sweetness contrasts nicely with the juicy, acidic apples to create a really delectable symphony of tastes. I just adore it. When making homemade apple crisp, what sort of apples should you use?

For the most diversified deep apple taste, we suggest using a combination of apples. Half tart cooking apples, such as granny smiths, and half sweeter tastes! Some of the apples will stay tart and crisp, while others will break down into a jammy, cinnamon-sugar dream. You may use any apples you have on hand for the sweeter apples: gala, honey crisp, pink lady, envy…any sort will do.

How to prepare apple crisp with maple syrup ahead of time

Crisp is a terrific dessert to cook for a large group since it’s simple to make and everyone enjoys it. However, with party desserts, you’ll typically want to prepare them ahead of time so you can spend more time enjoying the party and less time in the kitchen. If you want to create this apple crisp ahead of time, we prefer to do it two ways!

  1. Make the maple apple crisp ahead of time and put it in the freezer before baking. Filling and crisp topping may be assembled as suggested, wrapped in plastic wrap, and frozen for up to 2 months! When you’re ready to bake it, bring it to room temperature before proceeding as recommended!
  2. It should be reheated. You may also bake your apple crisp according to the recipes and then reheat it just before serving! Your crisp won’t be as crispy, but it’ll be tasty anyway! Reheat at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crisp begins to bubble again!

Ingredients

Regarding the Apple Section

  • 5 apples, big (3 granny smith, 2 sweeter variety)
  • a third cup of maple syrup
  • 2 tblsp flour (or cornstarch)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
  • a half teaspoon of salt

To Make The Crispy Topping

  • a half-cup of butter, cubed
  • 1 cup oats, old fashioned
  • 1 pound of flour
  • brown sugar, 1/3 cup
  • a third cup of maple syrup
  • salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and butter a 9-inch round pan. Remove the pan from the heat.
  2. Before slicing the apples into small 1/8 – 1/4′′ pieces, peel and core them. Combine the remaining ingredients for the apple layer in a large mixing basin. Mix together with your hands or a wooden spoon until the apples are equally covered.
  3. Arrange the apples in an equal layer in the greased dish. Remove from the equation.
  4. Combine the oats, flour, sugar, maple syrup, spices, and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Cut the butter into the mixture with a pastry cutter, a fork, or your fingertips until it resembles wet sand and clumps together. Over the apples, evenly distribute the mixture.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes at 375°F before lowering the heat to 350°F and continuing to bake for another 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple layer is bubbling. Allow time for the food to cool before eating. Serving with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream is recommended.

Notes

  1. To alter and enrich the apple taste, we suggest using a combination of apples. Three granny smith apples are used to ensure that you have some robust, tarter cooking apples to balance out three pleasant, sweeter apples. Use anything you have on hand (McIntosh, Pink Lady, Envy, Gala, Braeburn, Honey Crisp etc.)
