What is the best way to create chia jam?

You won’t believe how simple it is to make this jam. There’s no need to can it, and there’s no need to add a lot of sugar–all this amazing jam requires are berries and chia seeds.

Simply cook the fruit until it begins to break down over medium heat. If your berries are acidic, add a pinch of lemon zest and a drizzle of maple syrup (you may not need it!). Finally, utilizing chia seeds’ incredible gelling power, swirl them into your berry mixture and let aside for around 10 minutes. This isn’t a joke. It’s that simple.

The most crucial element is to give the jam enough time to settle and take it all in. The chia seeds will swell up and absorb the moisture from the berries, resulting in a thick jam that doesn’t need any additional binders. YUM.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • chia seeds, 1/4 cup
  • 1 lemon’s zest
  • a quarter-cup of lemon juice (about 1 small lemon)
  • to taste maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine all of the berries. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries begin to break down, reduce, and bubble, approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Stir in the lemon zest until everything is well combined. With your wooden spoon, mash the fruit until it reaches the appropriate consistency. If you don’t want any chunks of fruit, you may alternatively use an immersion blender.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and season to taste with maple syrup (or honey). This is entirely dependent on the sweetness of your berries and how sweet you want your jam to be. One tablespoon was utilized.
  3. Stir in the chia seeds until they are evenly distributed. Your jam will remain thin, but don’t panic; the chia seeds will begin to gel and thicken.
  4. Allow the jam to thicken for 10 minutes before serving. It will thicken more, but if it’s still too liquidy, add another spoonful of chia seeds (depending on how watery your berries are!).
  5. Refrigerate the jam after transferring it to a sealable container. The jam may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Serve on a PB&J sandwich or by the spoonful. YUM.
