Brownies have always been a family favorite. But they’re not something you want to spend too much time in the kitchen making, right? Here’s an easy way out that will satisfy everyone without your having to break a sweat!

The “best box brownie hacks” are the easiest way to make boxed brownies better. The best part about these hacks is that they don’t require any special equipment or ingredients.

Let’s be real for a second. Even the most seasoned bakers become lazy now and again. And there’s nothing like a fast packaged brownie mix when you’re in a hurry.

But, of course, we’re still bakers who like putting our own stamp on things. So today’s article will show you how to improve packaged brownies for those days when you need something sweet but don’t have the time or energy to prepare anything from scratch.

How to improve boxed brownies

1. Pour in the espresso powder.

What’s the first guideline of improving packaged brownies? Toss in the espresso powder. 2 tablespoons should suffice. It will significantly enhance the chocolate taste of your brownies. But don’t worry, they won’t have a coffee flavor to them. Just a little more chocolaty! However, instead of using real ground espresso beans, you should use instant espresso or coffee powder.

You might experiment with replacing part of the water in the batter with coffee for a stronger mocha taste. I haven’t tested it yet, but it seems to be a fantastic concept!

2. Make it a race to the finish.

Anything with a smidgeon of bite would suffice. Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, and cocoa nibs, to name a few… Adding a little tactile crunch to your brownies transforms them from ordinary to extraordinary. To make your boxed brownies appear even nicer, mix your crunchy pieces into the mixture or sprinkle on top. Just make sure you use raw nuts rather than salted ones.

3. Make use of an extract

To make these brownies basic and chocolaty, I used vanilla extract, but it’s always interesting to experiment with other extract tastes in boxed brownies. Peppermint, like bourbon, is a great winner! If you’ve never cooked with different extracts before, be sure you know how much of each one to use in a recipe. Some extracts are quite concentrated, and not all of them mix in as effectively as vanilla.

4. Don’t forget to add additional chocolate!

How could you not, right? Adding chocolate chips to the batter, drizzling dark or white chocolate on top, or, dare I say, both?! You could even shred your favorite candy bar and add it to the mix. Just suggesting, Kit-Kats and Crunch bars might provide some wonderful texture…

5. Add a pinch of salt to finish.

Nothing beats a sprinkle of salt on a baked item, and brownies are no different. Use Maldon, Falk Salt, or Jacobson as a finishing salt. It only takes a small sprinkle!

6. If in doubt, bake a little longer.

Overbaking brownies is the quickest way to spoil a batch. In a matter of minutes, they may change from fudgy and delectable to cakey and dry. As a result, be sure to set the timer for 5-10 minutes shorter than the instructions on the box. When a butter knife put in the middle of the brownies comes out mainly clean (a little piece of brownie on there is OK! ), you know they’re done. As the brownies cool, they’ll continue to cook, and when they’re ready to eat, they’ll be the fudgiest, nicest brownies you’ve ever had.

The world is your oyster now that you know how to improve packaged brownies. If you have a favorite mix-in or topping for your brownies, please let me know! I’m constantly on the lookout for a good reason to bake extra brownies.
