Twix Bars Made at Home

Twix was my childhood candy. The crinkly gold wrapper, the rich chocolate coating, the chewy caramel, and the crisp cookie… I mean, aren’t you salivating as well? And if there’s one thing better than a fresh Twix, it’s a Twix that’s been prepared from scratch. These homemade Twix bars are just as good as the store-bought version. Dare I say…they’re superior? Yes, I do.

What are Twix created at home?

I’m hoping you’ve tried a Twix previously. If you haven’t, I’m sorry but I don’t know what else to say. If you’ve ever had a chewy, crunchy, chocolaty Twix, you’ll know it’s one of the *elite* candy bars. It’s made up of three delicious layers:

  1. Biscuit: To balance off the chewy caramel and creamy chocolate, the biscuit cookie adds a pleasant crunch.
  2. Homemade Caramel: The actual star of these Twix bars is the homemade caramel. You’re going to create a salty-sweet homemade caramel that will blow your mind.
  3. Chocolate is lavished on every decent candy bar, and these handmade Twix bars are no exception!

Twix ingredients (homemade)

To create Twix bars at home, you’ll need a lot of materials. Sure, you could simply grab a Twix in the checkout line (and we wouldn’t blame you), but handmade candy bars are more fun to make, taste better, and don’t include any strange additives or fillers. What you’ll need is the following:

  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Egg yolk
  • Salt
  • Flour for All Purposes
  • heaviness of cream
  • Extract of Vanilla
  • Chocolate
  • Coconut oil is a kind of vegetable oil that is

Recommendations for the greatest Twix bars

Homemade candy bars take a little longer to make than chocolate chip cookies or blueberry muffins, but the additional effort is well worth it. Making a more complicated recipe is really incredibly soothing for me. However, baking is only therapeutic if you have all of the knowledge you need. If you follow these guidelines, you’ll be able to make flawless homemade Twix bars.

  1. Use high-quality chocolate: These Twix bars are covered in a thick coating of creamy chocolate, much like other candy bars. It’ll be the first flavor note you experience when you bite into your delectable candy bar, so make it a nice one! Ghiradelli, Lindt, or any other high-quality chocolate brand come highly recommended.
  2. Chill the caramel and cookie layers: Give the cookie/caramel bars plenty of time to chill and set. Dunking each candy bar in chocolate will be considerably simpler and cleaner as a result of this. Have faith in me. I had to learn the hard way.
  3. Don’t forget the salt: The importance of salt in sweet desserts cannot be overstated. Your homemade Twix will taste overpoweringly sweet if you don’t use enough salt.

So, my buddies, go ahead. With a handmade Twix, chew it over.

Ingredients

for the layer of cookies

  • 1/2 cup room temperature butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 1 yolk of an egg
  • 1 1/4 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • salt (1/4 teaspoon)

for the chocolate dipping sauce

  • 6 ounces coarsely chopped semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 tblsp. virgin coconut oil

for the coating of caramel

  • 1 pound of sugar
  • 6 tblsp. melted butter
  • 6 TBS. HEAVY CREAM
  • a half teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8 × 8 inch baking sheet on both sides with parchment paper. When building your bars, be sure to coat both edges with parchment paper, leaving a two-inch overhang! Remove from the equation.
  2. Combine all of the cookie ingredients in a food processor. Pulse until the ingredients are barely incorporated and the dough forms a ball. Spread the dough into an equal layer in the prepared pan, using your hands to do so.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove the bars from the oven and set aside to cool fully.
  4. Make the homemade caramel while the bars are cooling. Heat the sugar in a heavy-bottomed sauce pan over medium-low heat, stirring the pan gently every 20 seconds or so, until it is fully melted. Before gently melting, the sugar will begin to form clumps. Be patient and keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat as soon as it has melted and mix in the butter. The mixture will erupt in a flurry of bubbles. You’re doing everything correctly.
  6. Pour in the heavy cream and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt after that. Stir everything together until it’s completely smooth. A tablespoon of cooled caramel may be tasted. Add the leftover sea salt to taste if desired! Remove from the heat and set aside for 5 minutes to cool.
  7. Once the caramel has somewhat cooled, spoon it over the cookie bars in an equal layer. Refrigerate for at least two hours or overnight after covering the pan with tinfoil or plastic wrap.
  8. Pull the parchment paper up to remove the bars from the pan and lay them on a cutting board after they’ve set. Cut the dough into 16 3 inch by 3/4 inch broad bars using a sharp knife. On one side, cut the square in half, then cut it into 1/8ths.
  9. While melting the chocolate, place the bars in the freezer to keep them solid.
  10. Chop the chocolate into tiny pieces and combine with the coconut oil in a microwave-safe dish. Microwave for 20 seconds at a time, stirring after each. Repeat until all of the chocolate is melted and smooth. If you like, you may make this in a double boiler.
  11. Gently dip each Twix into the chocolate, then turn the biscuit bar over using a fork to evenly cover both sides. Place wax paper on top. Continue with the remaining Twix.
  12. Place in the fridge to set for approximately 15 minutes, or until the chocolate has firm. Enjoy!
