Happy hour hot fudge milkshake

On a hot summer day, nothing is better than a delicious milkshake. There’s something about being able to cool down on the inside and warm up on the outside with this classic American drink that has endured for generations. But what makes it so irresistible? The answer comes in part from the ingredients of ice cream, chocolate syrup and milk combined into one simple concoction.

The “how to make hot fudge sauce” is a delicious drink that can be made at home. It’s a thick, rich chocolate sauce that goes well with ice cream and other desserts.

Joy the Baker has a small obsession with me. She was the first food blogger I started following, and she’s still one of my faves. So when she came up with this boozy milkshake, I had no choice but to give it a try. Plus, I’ll be using this as my go-to homemade hot fudge recipe for years to come. Without further ado, here’s the Happy Hour Hot Fudge Milkshake.

The fudge reminds me of my first work, when we produced tons of handmade fudge sauce every night in the back area of an ice cream shop back home. That fudge was incredible. I believe it was included in Boston Magazine as one of the best hot fudges in the city 10 years ago… Anyways. This happy hour hot fudge milkshake tastes just like that one, if not (don’t kill me) even better. Who can resist a boozy dessert? I’m not one of them!

  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup (light)
  • 2/3 gallon of heavy cream

  • 6 oz. coarsely chopped excellent dark chocolate (not unsweetened)

because of the milkshake

  • 2 cups ice cream (vanilla)
  • 2/3 gallon of whole milk
  • bourbon, 4 oz.
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (pure)

for the cream whipped

  • 1/2 gallon of heavy cream
  • 2 tblsp sugar (powdered)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure)

Instructions

because of the fudge

  1. In a 2-quart heavy saucepan, combine cocoa powder, brown sugar, corn syrup, cream, salt, and half of the chopped chocolate; simmer, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted. Cook for 5 minutes at a low boil, stirring regularly.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and mix in the remaining chocolate, butter, and vanilla until smooth. Before serving, let it cool somewhat. Cooled sauce may be kept refrigerated for up to one week in an airtight container. Reheat over low heat, stirring occasionally.

for the cream whipped

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Hand-whisk until soft peaks form (because you have muscles). Allow the milkshake to cool in the refrigerator while you prepare it.

because of the milkshake

  1. Combine ice cream, milk, bourbon, and vanilla in a blender (or milkshake machine). Blend until the mixture is thick and creamy. To get the required consistency, thicken with additional ice cream or thin with more milk.

put together the milkshake

  1. In a large glass, pour a couple teaspoons of warm fudge. Serve with a milkshake on top. Put a dollop of whipped cream on top. Jimmies and chocolate are sprinkled on top. Serve immediately with a cherry on top.
