So, what exactly is chocolate mousse?

If you know us, you know how passionate we are about luscious chocolate sweets. Chocolate blackout cake, brown butter chocolate chip cookies, chocolate oreo ice cream, and everything in between are on the menu. As a result, it’s no surprise that we’re huge mousse enthusiasts.

Chocolate mousse is a traditional, delicious dessert that I’ve always regarded as difficult to prepare at home. It’s the ideal balance of bright and dark, but also rich and decadent. I understand. Weird. But that’s part of what makes it so enjoyable. Separating eggs and tempering chocolate are required for traditional chocolate mousse, which results in a smooth, rich, but light and airy texture. And, as delicious as it is, it is also a LOT of effort.

Nobody has the time for that. That’s why we put this very simple blender chocolate mousse to the test. It’s as silky smooth, light, and rich as classic mousse, but much simpler to make. 5 ingredients, 10 minutes, and a blender are all you’ll need. That’s all there is to it.

It’s also gluten-free, and if you use dark chocolate, it’s also low in sugar!

How to create chocolate mousse in a blender

There’s no need to separate eggs or temper chocolate in this recipe. In a high-powered blender, combine the first four ingredients. In a separate bowl, whip the remaining 1/2 cup heavy cream until stiff with a handheld mixer (or by hand if you want an arm workout). Combine the two mixes and fold them together until they are thoroughly mixed. Fill separate containers with the mixture and chill for an hour before serving!

And there you have it–a simple chocolate mousse!

What sort of chocolate should you use for this recipe?

High-quality chocolate bars, such as Ghiradelli, Guittard, or a similar brand, are recommended. This is not the time to use chocolate chips or a cheap substitute! It’s entirely up to you whether you want dark chocolate, semisweet chocolate, or milk chocolate. This handmade chocolate mousse has no added sugar, so if you want it sweeter, use semisweet chocolate.

Is it possible to prepare chocolate mousse without using a blender?

Absolutely. If you don’t have a high-powered blender, use a food processor to create this no-bake chocolate mousse! If none of those options are available, I propose preparing a classic chocolate mousse!
