Hello there, gentlemen. I’m sorry; I’ve been slacking. Let me simply give you a quick rundown of my life: 

 

1) I purchased a new lens! It’s fantastic, and I’ve had a lot of fun with it. This is a picture I took using it. It’s more of a wide-angle portrait/general scenery lens, but I believe the high aperture makes it look excellent on food.

 

2) My PC has been hissing like a 20th century radiator on steroids for the last month. So I went it to the Apple shop to have it fixed, but they needed to conduct a “clean wipe,” which meant they had to delete everything. Fortunately, I’m a clever girl and had already saved all of my data. Unfortunately, since I’m a dummy, I didn’t save any of my applications. So, what about that tens of thousands-of-dollar photo-editing program called Photoshop? Gone. To say the least, I’ve been uninspired.

 

3) I’ve been working five days a week on top of two full days of school, giving me plenty of time to be crazy and a little time to bake.

 

4) I… ahmm… hey, I established a website for photography! It was a lot of fun going over all of my prior exploits, and I’m happy with the outcome. www.sarah-fennel.com is a good place to start.

 

 5) I’ve been making a lot of the recipes I’ve previously shared on the site, including Katharine Canfield Cookies and Daisy’s Toffee Bark. So don’t worry, I’m still big and joyful; it’s just that I’m not eating any new dishes. I’ll try to do better and come up with some new recipes to share.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
  • a quarter cup of confectioner’s sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder (Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder, for example)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips, dark

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing basin, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream together the butter, cocoa powder, and sugar until smooth and totally blended. Pour in the vanilla extract. Finish with a wooden spoon after adding the flour. Make sure not to overmix!
  2. Stir in the chocolate chips, then roll out the dough into an 8-inch log on a board (the dough will be sticky).

  3. Roll the dough into a log and wrap it in parchment paper, twisting both ends to seal it.

  4. Refrigerate for at least one hour, or up to 24 hours (you can also freeze the dough for later use).

  5. When you’re ready to bake the dough, preheat the oven to 350°F. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. With a sharp knife, cut the log into 1/3-inch pieces. Bake the slices for 12 to 15 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. When the cookies are done, they should be somewhat soft. Don’t overbake them or they’ll get really crispy.

  6. Allow it cool for a few minutes on the pan before transferring to a cooling rack.
