Tilly’s Homemade Dog Birthday Cake Recipe

Guys. Today is a very special day on the blog. Please start the drums. TILLY HAS TURNED ONE! In a week, but for now we’re recipe testing… She has no idea what the difference is. Tilly’s birthday is next Wednesday, and call me a crazy dog parent, but I’m really proud of this kid. And we celebrate with cake in this household. That is a Dog Birthday Cake for Tilly.

Since we adopted Tilly last summer, I’ve been looking forward to this dog birthday cake, and it did not disappoint.

Is it Safe for Dogs to Eat Cake?

This is it! Human food isn’t always excellent for your dog’s tummy. Tilly loves to follow us around pretty much wherever we go, which includes the kitchen quite often. We constantly want to give her a taste since she’s such a wonderful girl, but we always ask Alexa, “Is okay for dogs?” because I’m not wanting to give her a stomach ache.

As a result, when we set out to create this dog birthday cake, we wanted to include all of her faves as well as nothing that we know is bad for her (like chocolate or too much sugar).

What Should You Put in a Dog’s Birthday Cake?

Tilly is, as you are well aware, my favorite thing. So, for Tilly’s birthday, we wanted to shower her with all of her favorite things. Tilly’s favorite foods are pumpkin, Greek yogurt, and peanut butter, as anybody who knows her knows (duh). Naturally, we chose a peanut butter pumpkin cake with a Tilly-approved peanut butter and greek yogurt icing to hold it all together.

Despite the fact that this cake is produced with healthy materials, you should restrict the quantity of dog birthday cake your puppy consumes. This dog birthday cake recipe makes a tiny 6 inch cake, however we don’t advocate feeding your dog the whole cake. Tilly was overjoyed when we gave her a tiny bit.

What is the Best Way to Store a Dog Birthday Cake?

Even though Tilly doesn’t appear to distinguish between new and stale food, you’ll want to keep your dog cake wrapped or in a sealed container in the refrigerator to keep it as fresh as possible. It should keep in the fridge for approximately a week. You may even cut it into 8 pieces and freeze them separately for a special treat when your dog is being a really good girl or boy to extend the birthday celebrations!

How to Make a Cake for a Dog’s Birthday

It’s essentially the same as baking a human cake. We utilized a pumpkin bread recipe that we already had and just removed the sugar. Simply combine the wet components first, then add the dry. Bake @ 350°F for 30 minutes, then frost! Pb pumpkin doggy birthday cake is complete.

That’s all there is to it, kids. It won’t taste nice to us humans, but it will to your birthday dog, as you can see.

Ingredients

for the icing

  • a quarter cup of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup pureed pumpkin
  • a quarter cup of peanut butter
  • 2 room temperature eggs
  • a third cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

for the cream cheese icing

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • a quarter cup of peanut butter

Instructions

for the icing

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and oil two 6 inch round cake pans. Remove the pan from the heat.
  2. Combine the pumpkin, peanut butter, and oil in a large mixing basin and stir thoroughly. About 2 minutes if you’re using a stand mixer. Mix in the egg well. Fold in all of the dry ingredients using a rubber spatula until well combined.
  3. Bake for 18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, after dividing the batter between two pans.

for the cream cheese icing

  1. Beat the yogurt and peanut butter in a stand mixer equipped with the whisk attachment until light and fluffy, approximately 3 minutes.
  2. After the cakes have cooled completely, frost them. You may leave the two cakes as is if you want a two-layer cake. If you want a four-layer cake, cut each layer in half using a large serrated knife. Spread a thin coating of “frosting” over one side of the cake and place it on a cake stand or dish. Place the next layer on top of the previous one, and so on until all of the layers are complete.
  3. Enjoy your time with your dog!
