And, although I like a traditional pumpkin or pecan pie, I’m always up for trying something new over the holidays. With a bit of orange zest, a dab of vanilla essence, and a flaky, buttery handmade pie crust, you’ve got yourself a dangerously wonderful Christmas pie.

Ingredients
- Two pie crusts (either store-bought or handmade)
- 4 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen)
- 14 cup sugar, granulated
- 3 cups cherries (frozen)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (pure)
- a quarter teaspoon of salt
- 12 cup Bonne Maman Cranberry-Cherry Preserves, Limited Edition
- 1 orange’s zest
- 3 tblsp flour (all-purpose)
- a single egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare two pie crusts (one for the top and one for the bottom) according to the guidelines if using handmade pie crust. If you’re using a store-bought pie crust, remove it from the fridge so it’s easier to handle.
- Preheat the oven to 350° F when you’re ready to bake the pie.
- Combine the cranberries and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until most of the cranberries have popped. Remove them from the fire after they’ve burst, since you don’t want them to get too mushy.
- In a large mixing basin, pour the cooked cranberries. Combine the cherries, vanilla essence, salt, orange zest, flour, and Bonne Maman Limited-Edition Cranberry-Cherry Preserves in a large mixing bowl. Mix everything together with a rubber spatula until it’s evenly covered.
- On a floured work surface, roll out the bottom pie crust to a thickness of 14 inches. The circle should be bigger than the circular in your pie plate (ie: if your pie pan is 9 inches, make the circle 11 inches). Carefully press the dough into the pie pan, allowing an overhang around the borders. Fill the pie crust with the filling.
- The second pie disk should be rolled out into a circle large enough to reach the sides of the pie pan. Make strips out of the dough. We sliced our dough into pieces of identical width, but feel free to experiment! Weave the threads in and out of each other, draping the edges over the pie crust’s bottom. Enjoy yourself – it doesn’t have to be flawless! When you’ve finished weaving the lattice, squeeze the bottom and top crusts together and roll the sides inward to seal the pie. Fluff up the edges of the pie and smooth out any flaws.
- To produce an egg wash, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small dish. Brush the pie evenly with a pastry brush. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, or until the cherry filling and crust are golden brown. Before serving with ice cream or whipped cream, let it cool fully.
