Cinnamon Roll Cake

A true cinnamon roll is actually a German dessert. Who knew? This works in slightly surprising ways, like providing the most moist and flavorful cake you’ve ever had.

The “cinnamon roll cake pinterest” is a popular dessert that has been around for decades. The cinnamon roll cake is a sweet pastry that is made with flour, sugar, butter, eggs and milk. It is typically served warm with cream cheese frosting or as an ice cream topping.

Cinnamon roll cake, in three words.

Do you want to pay attention to what I’m saying?

1636265568_807_Cinnamon-Roll-CakeLet’s begin by setting the scenario.

I’m 11 years old and I’m leaving The Limited Too with my mother at the mall. She recently purchased me the cutest beaded outfit and glitter flared pants (which I will wear together obvi). We’re going towards Macy’s when we get a whiff of freshly made Cinnabon. I’m going to need one. As a result, I implore my mother.

Because my mother is the best, the two of us will have one for supper.

My ideal day would consist of a new dress for my 6th grade dance and a Cinnabon– Is there anything more perfect than this?

1636265570_188_Cinnamon-Roll-CakeFast forward ten years, same me, same sweet appetite, and I’m craving a cinnamon roll but there’s no Cinnabon within walking distance. It’s a tragedy.

I could bake cinnamon rolls, but do you have any idea how long a handmade cinnamon bun takes?!

It takes hours, if not days, of planned thinking, and I’m the person who microwaves her butter for 30 seconds to get it to room temperature before making cookies, so you know that’s not my style.

Friends, don’t be concerned. I’m here to help with this Cinnabon-inspired cinnamon roll sheet cake that takes less than 2 hours to make.

Continue reading at your own peril.

This drool-worthy sheet cake is made with a delicate buttery crumb cake that is just thick enough, enormous swirls of cinnamon sugar, and a tangy cream cheese sauce.

What’s the best way to obtain that distinct cinnamon swirl?

There’s no need for rolling pins.

Half of the batter should be poured into a 9 by 13 sheet pan. Cover the whole batter with a thick coating of cinnamon sugar. Spread the remaining batter on top of the cinnamon layer as evenly as possible. In concentrated places, sprinkle the leftover mixture on top of the top layer. Make BIG swirls in the batter using a butter knife.

I studied art in college, and this is as near to painting as I can come these days.

You’re going to drown it with cream cheese icing anyhow, so have fun with it.

What’s the deal with cream cheese frosting?

The tangy cream cheese adds just the right amount of creaminess to this cinnamon delight. It’s just delicious enough to make you want to lick your fingers. This recipe creates a lot of glaze, but the best part is the frosting (we can fight it out in the comments if you disagree).

Spread the icing all over, and you’ve got yourself a simple sheet cake that’s as nice as a new wardrobe from The Limited Too and a warm Cinnabon.

Have fun, my sweethearts!

To Make the Cake

  • 1 cup room temperature unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 1 pound brown sugar (distributed)
  • 4 big room-temperature eggs
  • 1 tbsp extract de vanille
  • 3 cups flour (all-purpose)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon powdered baking soda
  • a quarter teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 and a third cup sour cream or yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

To make the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup softened cream cheese
  • a half-cup of powdered sugar
  • vanilla extract (1/2 teaspoon)
  • 5 teaspoons of milk

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch sheet pan with parchment paper and oil the sides.
  2. Softened butter, granulated sugar, and 1/3 cup brown sugar are combined in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Combine the eggs and vanilla essence in a mixing bowl.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate basin. Slowly stir the flour mixture and sour cream into the wet ingredients until they are completely mixed.
  4. Combine the remaining 2/3 cup brown sugar and the cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Remove from the equation.
  5. Half of the batter should be poured into the pan, followed by 1/3 cup of the cinnamon sugar mixture, with the remaining 1/3 reserved for the top. Use an offset spatula to smooth out the remaining batter on top of the first layer. Over the batter, sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar. Make cinnamon swirls on the top half of the batter using a knife. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown on top and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan before removing.
  6. Make the glaze while the cake is cooling. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and milk until smooth.
  7. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of the cooled cake. With a cup of coffee or a glass of milk, this dish is perfect.
