Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

A golden and fluffy coffee cake with a crunchy cinnamon topping. Cinnamon is the star of this cake, which pairs beautifully with strong black coffees!

The “chocolate chip cinnamon cake” is a delicious and easy to make dessert. It’s perfect for breakfast or as an after dinner treat.

This should come as no surprise, but I like a decent breakfast masquerading as dessert. Isn’t it wonderful that sugaring up and literally eating cake at 8 a.m. is socially acceptable? All of the cinnamon buns, babkas, and crumb cakes, please. This Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake recipe would be my absolute favorite morning treat if I had to choose. A deep cinnamon swirl runs through this buttery, fluffy cinnamon coffee cake sprinkled with chocolate chips… It’s as if it’s my all-time favorite thing.

The texture is out of this world. And, yes, I know I say it all the time, but this coffee cake is really exceptional. It’s wonderfully thick and buttery while remaining light and airy. It’s so wet that you could leave it out on the counter for three days without it drying out. If you throw in some chocolate chips, you’ve got yourself a happy Sarah.

What is the best way to create a moist coffee cake?

Nothing is more unpleasant than a dry coffee cake. You know what I’m talking about: bready, crumbly, and flavorless. Yuck. Our cinnamon chocolate chip coffee cake recipe, on the other hand, is the polar opposite, owing to a full cup of greek yogurt or sour cream. The acidity in the greek yogurt gives the coffee cake a high rise while also keeping it very moist and soft.1636268146_875_Cinnamon-Chocolate-Chip-Coffee-Cake

What kind of flour should I use to make cinnamon chocolate chip coffee cake?

Bob’s Red Mill is one of my favorite brands to deal with, and their Unbleached White All Purpose Flour provides the silky crumb in this cinnamon chocolate chip coffee cake. Wonderful ingredients equal great cake, which is why I like Bob’s. Whether I’m using their nutritional yeast, poppy seeds, or flour, I know the components are of the best quality and will consistently provide excellent results. This is crucial for recipe testing.

So I knew we had to utilize Bob’s when we started out to create this coffee cake.

What is the best way to oil a bundt pan?

I love parchment paper, but you can’t exactly use a sheet to line an ornate bundt pan. Greasing and flouring come into play here. Sure, it’s a shambles, but it’s also a lot of fun. To oil and flour a skillet, all you need is some softened butter and all-purpose flour.

  1. 2 tbsp. butter, brought to room temperature
  2. Rub the butter all over the interior of the bundt pan with your hand, getting into all of the nooks and crannies.
  3. To coat the pan with flour, sprinkle flour into it and shake it around over a garbage can or the sink.
  4. To release any loose flour, smack the pan against the counter and put it into the garbage.

You may now pour your chocolate chip coffee cake batter into your pan and relax knowing that it will release easily.

Bring this cinnamon chocolate chip coffee cake to the office to wow your colleagues. It’s perfect for a birthday brunch or a bridal shower. Send it in the mail to a friend to let them know you’re thinking of them (it travels well!) or make it for yourself as a Monday pick-me-up.

I hope you like this recipe for coffee cake as much as I do.

Have a fantastic week!

for the icing

  • 1 pound of sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • a half cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • a half teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semisweet)

for the swirl of cinnamon

  • 3/4 cup sugar (brown)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Set aside a big bundt pan that has been greased and floured. Combine the butter and sugar in a stand mixer equipped with a paddle attachment and beat until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the basin and whisk together the yogurt, vanilla, and eggs.
  2. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate basin. Combine the dry and wet ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir until no clumps of flour remain. Fold in the chocolate chips using a rubber spatula.
  3. Meanwhile, for the cinnamon swirl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon with a fork. Half of the batter should be poured into the bundt pan and smoothed down with the back of a spoon. Half of the brown sugar mixture should be sprinkled over the batter and swirled in with a fork or knife. Pour in the remaining batter and swirl the remaining brown sugar mixture on top.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the cake comes out clean. Allow 10 minutes to cool before plating and serving for breakfast, lunch, or supper.
