What is apple crisp, exactly?

No, it’s not a slice of pie. It’s a LOT BETTER. Crisps are often created with a thick layer of fresh fruit on the bottom and a buttery crumble topping on top. Apple crisp, unlike apple pie, has no crust, allowing the apple taste to show through with just a touch of oat-y, buttery flavor in the crisp topping. Apple crisp is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy simpler

When making homemade apple crisp, what sort of apples should you use?

For the most diversified deep apple taste, we suggest using a combination of apples. Half tart cooking apples, such as granny smiths, and half sweeter tastes! Some of the apples will stay tart and crisp, while others will break down into a jammy, cinnamon-sugar dream. You may use any apples you have on hand for the sweeter apples: gala, honey crisp, pink lady, envy…any sort will do.

To make apple crisp, follow these steps:

Crisp is one of the simplest desserts to make when you have a lot of fresh or frozen fruit on hand. Only a few items are required, which you most likely already have on hand. Don’t worry, my newbie bakers, it’s just three simple stages (which we broke out more in the recipe card). We’ve got you covered), and you’ll have crisp in no time.

  1. Apples should be peeled and sliced.
  2. Combine all of the apple layer ingredients in a mixing bowl. Place in a frying pan.
  3. Combine all of the topping ingredients in a mixing bowl. Sprinkle the topping on top of the apples.
  4. Bake.
  5. EAT the ice cream on top.

Eat up, my sweethearts. Happy apple-baking and apple-crisp-eating season!

With all those freshly harvested apples, this simple apple crisp is the ideal traditional apple treat to make. You’ll enjoy this beautiful Fall dessert, which has delicate and crunchy cinnamon apples with a buttery crumble topping. It’s best served with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ideal Fall dessert.

Ingredients

with relation to the apple

  • 6 apples, big (3 granny smith, 3 sweeter variety)
  • a quarter cup of light brown sugar
  • a quarter cup of granulated sugar
  • corn starch, 3 tblsp
  • 1 tblsp. cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon clove powder
  • a quarter teaspoon of salt

as a crunchy topping

  • a third of a cup of butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 1/3 cup oats, old fashioned
  • a half cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (light)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (granulated)
  • salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • 1 tblsp. cinnamon powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and butter a 9 × 13-inch baking pan. Remove the pan from the heat.
  2. Combine the sugars, cornstarch, spices, and salt in a large mixing basin.
  3. Before slicing the apples into small 1/8 – 1/4′′ pieces, peel and core them. Toss the apples with the sugar mixture to incorporate. This can be done using two large wooden spoons, but I like to do it with my hands. Arrange the apples in an equal layer in the greased dish. Remove from the equation.
  4. Combine the oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium mixing basin. Cut the butter into the mixture with a pastry cutter, a fork, or your fingertips until it resembles wet sand and clumps together. Over the apples, evenly distribute the mixture.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes at 375°F before lowering the heat to 350°F and continuing to bake for another 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple layer is bubbling. Allow time for the food to cool before eating. Serving with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream is recommended.

Notes

  1. To alter and enrich the apple taste, we suggest using a combination of apples. Three granny smith apples are used to ensure that you have some robust, tarter cooking apples to balance out three pleasant, sweeter apples. Feel free to use whichever fruits and vegetables you have on hand (McIntosh, Pink Lady, Envy, Gala, Braeburn, Honey Crisp, and so on).
