These chewy, soft, and incredibly addictive homemade oatmeal raisin cookies are created from scratch. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are used to season them mildly. Did I mention they’re made with bourbon-soaked raisins and the biggest chocolate chunks you’ve ever seen?

They’re simply… amazing.


Oatmeal Raisin Cookies Recipe

The additional treats I’ve added to these oatmeal raisin cookies aren’t going to frighten you. These babies are still super simple to create and take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

As a result, while baking these cookies, you’ll need to plan ahead a little. Because you’ll need to soak the raisins in whiskey for at least 30 minutes before you can begin making the cookie dough. (It’s literally as easy as pouring the bourbon over some raisins and walking away—that it’s easy!)

You can start creating the oatmeal raisin cookie dough when the raisins have had chance to soak up all of that delicious bourbon flavor. To begin, cream room temperature butter and brown sugar together for approximately a minute, or until light and fluffy (the butter must be room temperature!). Then beat in the egg and a few drops of vanilla essence until the mixture is light in color. These oatmeal raisin cookies will be extra soft on the inside as a result of this.

In a separate bowl, add the dry ingredients, then blend the wet and dry ingredients. When the cookie dough is finished, scoop it out into large balls and lay them on the baking sheet. These homemade oatmeal raisin cookies should be baked until the edges are just beginning to turn golden brown. They’ll seem undercooked, but keep in mind that they’ll continue to cook on the hot baking dish after you remove them from the oven!

You could also wrap them in plastic wrap to prevent them from freezer burn, but I’m much too lazy to do so.

  • a half cup of raisins
  • a quarter-cup of bourbon
  • room temperature 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 big room-temperature egg
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour plus 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • a half teaspoon of salt
  • a half teaspoon of cinnamon
  • a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg
  • a quarter teaspoon of ginger
  • 1 1/2 cup oats, old-fashioned
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate, coarsely chopped


  1. Soak raisins in bourbon in a small dish. Allow for at least 30 minutes, but up to 1 hour of sitting time. Strain raisins to eliminate any residual liquid when ready to use.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Remove from the equation.
  3. Cream the butter and brown sugar for 1 minute in a standing mixer equipped with a paddle attachment. Continue to whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is light in color.
  4. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger in a separate basin. Mix until all of the dry ingredients are well integrated.
  5. Stir in the oats, raisins soaked in whiskey, and chocolate bits until just incorporated.
  6. Using a 2.5 oz cookie scoop, scoop cookie batter. Place 2 inches between each biscuit on the prepared cookie sheet. Slightly press down on the cookies to make them seem more like disks rather than mounds.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies begin to turn brown. Cookies may seem underbaked at first, but as they cool, they will continue to cook. Allow 10 minutes for cookies to cool on cookie sheet before serving!
