What is going on in our country?
It seems strange to provide recipes without mentioning the current state of affairs in our nation. A big number of Neo-Nazis gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, August 12th, to protest the removal of a monument of Confederate leader Robert E. Lee. People demonstrated against the event, and within hours, a speeding automobile driven by a white nationalist slammed into the crowd, killing one person and wounding 19.
I studied in Anthropology in college, therefore I prefer to see things through an evolutionary perspective. Animals have grouped themselves into family groupings, clans, and communities throughout history. This seclusion, I was told, is an evolutionary benefit. This distinction between “us” and “them” aids in distinguishing what is more likely to be safe from what is alien and unfamiliar.
However, as a species, we have long ago evolved beyond our animal impulses in many respects. Our sexual dimorphism argues that humans should not be a monogamous species. We are, nevertheless, collectively. Anthropologists have yet to discover a biological explanation for real benevolence, to my knowledge. Despite this, we donate money to the homeless and say a kind “hello” to strangers on the street; we do good deeds for people we don’t even know. We are a species that places a strong emphasis on a moral code that is distinct from our biological inclinations.
It’s difficult for me to understand why this complicated species hasn’t accepted “them,” or other people with varied skin tones. The only explanation I can think of is that we haven’t yet arrived at the moral requirement that we are all humans.
We are all individuals.
Not even that we are all human beings worthy of respect. It’s just that we’re all human beings. I’ve been watching, reading, and listening to Charlottesville developments for the last four days. I’ve heard the following phrases:
Anti-white vermin belonging to the parasitic class. Filth that is anti-white and anti-American. Little black scumbags acting savagely Animals are idiots.
It’s a travesty. The theories of gravity, relativity, and quantum mechanics have all been deciphered. Humans have been to the moon, and robots have been to Mars. We’ve created vaccinations that have wiped out some of the most deadly diseases in human history. We’ve built the Giza Pyramids and deciphered the human DNA. Despite this, we don’t seem to be able to recognize that we are all humans.
I don’t have a conclusion since there isn’t one in this conflict. The future is presently a giant question mark, begging for an answer to the question, “What will become of us?”
I can only hope that love will triumph over hate. That these people who are so afraid of “them” learn that we are all humans, regardless of which side of the aisle we are on, the color of our skin, or where we were born. Everyone is worthy of love. Acceptance is a feeling. And of deference.
Advice on how to make banana cherry bread
After all of that, it seems odd to be writing instructions for baking cherry banana bread, but I do hope you like it (and maybe share a bit with someone?). When creating this bourbon banana bread, keep the following in mind:
Allow the cherries to soak in the whiskey overnight, if not longer — The bourbon-soaked cherries should be left to rest overnight to lock in all of the alcoholic taste. If you have the time, marinate them for 24 to 48 hours for maximum taste. You’ll be glad you planned ahead while creating this dish, trust me.
Make homemade banana bread using overripe bananas – The riper the bananas, the tastier the bread. If your bananas aren’t quite ripe yet, you may speed up the process by baking them for a few minutes (just make sure to poke a few holes in the peels first to let the steam out).
Use whole milk – This recipe calls for whole milk for a reason. This banana cherry bread will be incredibly moist and have a fantastic texture thanks to the whole milk.
How to store banana cherry bread in the freezer
This cherry banana bread keeps nicely in the freezer. Allow it to come to room temperature on your counter before sealing it in a freezer-safe baggie or wrapping it in many layers of plastic wrap and an aluminum foil final covering. When you’re ready to consume this loaf, put it in the refrigerator 24 hours ahead of time. You may keep it out on your counter for the rest of the week after it’s completely thawed.
for the cherries steeped in bourbon

in exchange for the bread

- Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Drain the bourbon-soaked cherries and stir with 2 tablespoons flour in a separate dish. Fold gently into the batter.
- If using, pour into loaf pan and top with half-sliced banana. Bake for about an hour, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Before serving, cool on a wire rack.
