Brownies that are better than boxed brownies

My name is Sarah, and I’m addicted to brownies. My favorite dessert is brownies. It’s possible that this is my favorite dish. As some of you may know, we usually have at least one batch of brownies in the home to eat. So coming up with a new brownie recipe is a huge deal for me because I feel angry if I don’t come up with anything close to flawless. In fact, I tossed away a whole batch of brownies the other day because they didn’t live up to my expectations. And I’m not even irritated by it.

Now, I don’t want to come out like a brownie snob, but I’m not… In fact, I’m a big fan of brownie mixes from the box. While handmade brownies are undoubtedly excellent, there is something inherently delectable about a boxed mix, and getting that fudgy, crackly top texture in a homemade brownie may be difficult.

That is, until you try these handmade boxed brownies, which taste precisely like the boxed brownie mix you know and love!

Fortunately for you, I eventually came up with a recipe that worked. They’re tender, fudgy, and moist, and they melt in your tongue. In fact, I believe I overbaked these by 2 minutes, so if you make them, take them out a few minutes earlier and you’ll get the most amazing fudgy brownies.

Why are these brownies superior than store-bought brownies?

Well, many reasons. I could go on and on about how amazing these homemade boxed brownies are, but there are a few reasons why they’re the best:

  1. They go from nothing to a pan full of brownie batter in the oven in 10 minutes or less.
  2. They don’t come in a box, which means you can prepare them with any ingredients you have on hand, with no weird fillers or additives.
  3. They’re a one-bowl wonder, which means you only need one bowl to make the whole thing.
  4. They’re just as excellent as, if not better than, any commercial brownie mix.

Is there anybody else who loves brownies as much as I do? What dessert is your I-must-have-it-and-it’s-my-favorite-beyond-favorite if brownies aren’t your thing (gasp)?

“Skittles,” Alex said when I asked him that question.

I simply looked at him and shook my head.

After that, he altered his response to brownies.

For a richer color, I used dutch cocoa powder and larger chocolate chips in the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of butter
  • 1 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 3/4 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (dutch process)
  • 4 ounces coarsely chopped bittersweet chocolate
  • 1 yolk + 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille
  • a half teaspoon of salt
  • 1/3 cup baking chocolate chips (bittersweet)
  • a third of a cup of semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Remove from microwave, whisk in sugar, and wait 30 seconds for both to melt. Stir once more and melt for another 60 seconds. The sugar and butter should gently bubble but not burn. This period of time should enough.
  2. Remove the microwaveable mixture from the oven and toss in the bittersweet chocolate. This should thoroughly melt the chocolate. If it still doesn’t work, microwave it for another 15 seconds. Except for the chocolate chips, combine all other ingredients in a mixing bowl. Fold in the bittersweet chocolate baking chips gently.
  3. Pour the batter into an 8′′x8′′ pan lined with parchment paper. Semi-sweet chocolate chips may be sprinkled on top. Bake the brownies for 30 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool for 10 minutes before cutting into 9 big squares.
