Barbecue Bacon Pizza

A pizza that tastes like bacon, but doesn’t actually contain any. It’s a grilled cheese sandwich with barbecue sauce and hot dogs on top instead of tomato sauce. The concoction is currently being sold in some local restaurants for $25 per slice, which would be about the price one can expect to pay at a restaurant for this type of culinary creation.

Pizza with Barbecue Bacon

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a pizza snob. We take our pizza extremely seriously here at Crawford’s. Alex and I are continuously coming up with new flavor combinations to take pizza night to the next level. And I’ve discovered a new fave. My new addiction is this caramelized onion, bbq bacon pizza. I can’t even begin to express how great this pizza is…okay, I’ll try. I’ll give it my best shot. It’s salty, cheesy, crunchy, sweet, umami… I mean, I’m salivating.

What’s even better? It takes less than 30 minutes to prepare.

How did this homemade pizza dough come together so quickly?

Pizza is fast and simple to make due to two factors: 1) the yeast used and 2) the high heat at which it is cooked. Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast is an extremely fast-acting yeast that only needs one rise and no hydration in water. In other words, pizza may be on the table in 30 minutes or less. Having tasty, fast, and simple dishes in your back pocket after a hard day at work is a game changer.

How to bake pizza at home

Making homemade pizza is one of my favorite things to do. Fresh handmade pizza is much superior than frozen or prepared pizza, and this recipe is about as simple as it gets: no mixer, no special ingredients, just one dish, and one ten-minute rise thanks to Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast.

  1. Simply combine the flour, sugar, salt, and Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast in a mixing dish. There’s no need to soak the yeast in water!
  2. Mix in the water until you have a soft dough. Knead the dough until smooth, then set it aside to rise for 30 minutes!
  3. Stretch and shape your pizza, then top with toppings and bake for 10 minutes at 400°F. That concludes our discussion.

Our recommendations for the finest 30 minute barbecue bacon pizza are as follows:

Don’t panic if this is your first time making homemade pizza. It’s one of the easiest yeasted breads to prepare, and Fleischmann’s® offers a wealth of useful information on their website, from yeast foundations through pizza dough shaping.

  • Prep the caramelized onions ahead of time: Because caramelizing onions takes the most time in this recipe, do it a day or two ahead of time (they’ll last 3 to 4 days in the fridge).
  • Use bread flour: Bread flour has more protein than all-purpose flour, resulting in more gluten, and hence a chewier, better dough.
  • Use a pizza stone: Using a pizza stone changes everything. It warms and maintains heat more evenly than a cookie sheet, resulting in a crispy bottom and an even rise!
  • Toppings a la carte: Everyone enjoys a pizza with a lot of toppings. To pack your pizza with flavor, layer everything on top of each other.
  • Use Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast in the following ways: Fleischmann’s® Active Dry Yeast is one of my favorites when I have the time, but sometimes you’re simply starving and supper can’t arrive fast enough. Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast comes to the rescue. It’s gluten-free, takes just one rise, and doesn’t need to be activated in water. We’d go so far as to say we’re fascinated.
  • Bake at a high temperature: The secret to successful homemade pizza baking is to get your oven as hot as possible. To produce a high rise and crispy crust, preheat your oven to its highest setting.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 2 and a half cups bread flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar (granulated)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast, 1 packet
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • a quarter-cup of tomato sauce
  • a quarter cup of barbecue sauce
  • 8 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 12 CUP ONIONS CARAMELIZED
  • 5 thick-cut bacon slices, cut into 14-inch chunks

Instructions

  1. Combine 2 cups bread flour, sugar, salt, and Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Instant Yeast in a large mixing dish.
  2. In the middle of the dry ingredients, make a well and pour in the heated water. Mix everything together with your hands until it forms a dough. The dough will be sticky at first, but after you knead it, it will come together!
  3. Knead the dough for 5 minutes on a floured surface, or until the texture begins to smooth out. If the dough is too sticky to deal with, add the remaining 14 cup flour a spoonful at a time until it is dry enough to handle. Make a ball out of the dough and set it in an oiled basin. Cover loosely with a dish towel and let aside for 10 minutes to rise in a warm area.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a clean work surface after ten minutes. We like to do this on parchment paper since it’s easier to clean up and carry. Place dough on a pizza stone or baking sheet and stretch into a 12-inch circle. Sauce, cheese, and any toppings you like on top. Baked for 10 minutes at 500°F! Allow it cool completely before slicing and devouring.
