I used to think churros were a luxury fried confection reserved for fairs, vacations, and high-end restaurants, but you’re about to be proven incorrect. Churros are surprisingly simple to prepare at home and taste just as good as they do at a restaurant. If you use these three tricks, you’ll always feel like you’re eating a gourmet churro.

  • Make sure your oil is at the proper temperature: When it comes to fried dishes, it’s critical that the oil be hot enough to provide a crisp, crunchy outside with a soft inside. If you have a cooking thermometer, your oil should be about 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t worry if you don’t have a thermometer. You can tell whether your oil is hot enough by dropping a droplet of water into it and watching it bubble and explode.
  • Warm them up: Churros are similar to donuts in that they are best served warm. These dippable fried donuts are excellent at room temperature, but they’re out of this world when they’re hot out of the fryer. If you do decide to prepare these ahead of time, we suggest reheating them in the oven or microwave before serving!

Ingredients

To make the churros, combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

  • 1 pound of flour
  • a pinch of cinnamon
  • cloves, 1/8 teaspoon
  • a quarter teaspoon of ginger
  • nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon
  • 1 apple cider cup
  • a quarter-pound of butter
  • brown sugar, 1 1/2 tblsp.
  • a half teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille
  • 1 egg
  • Coating: 3/4 cup granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon

To make the salted caramel dipping sauce, combine the following ingredients in a small mixing bowl.

  • 1/2 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 quart thick cream
  • a quarter teaspoon of salt

Instructions

  1. Make your salted caramel sauce first. Heat the sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes. Stir the sugar with a spatula from time to time to ensure it reaches the bottom of the pan. The sugar will be lumpy at first, but it will quickly melt and develop a brownish tint. Stir occasionally, just enough to keep everything cooking evenly.
  2. The sugar should be completely melted after 5 minutes. Remove from heat as soon as it becomes a dark caramel color and mix in butter. The mixture will erupt in a flurry of bubbles. You’re doing everything correctly.
  3. Stir the butter and sugar together with your spatula until they are totally melted. This might take up to two minutes.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and season with salt. Stir everything together with your spatula until it’s all blended. Return to the burner for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and pour into a small dipping dish. The sauce may simply be reheated in 15 second intervals in the microwave.
  5. Pour 2-3 inches of canola oil into a big, deep pan or pot (cast iron is great). Preheat the oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  6. Meanwhile, sift the flour and spices together in a separate basin and put aside.
  7. Combine the 3/4 cup granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small basin. Remove from the equation.
  8. Bring the apple cider, butter, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla extract to a boil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour mixture until it is well combined. It will be a thick mixture. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
  9. Slowly and thoroughly beat the egg into the dough using a stand mixer or an electric hand mixer. The finished product should be shiny and thick.
  10. Fill a pastry bag halfway with dough and a 1M star tip. With a tiny squeeze of dough, test the oil. In approximately 30 seconds, the churro should float to the top of the oil and brown on the bottom side. If required, adjust the heat.
  11. Pipe 3 inch strips into the oil, maintaining the pastry bag’s tip 1-2 inches above the surface. To remove the churros from the pastry bag, make clean cuts just below the tip of the bag using scissors. Drain on paper towels before tossing the heated churros into the granulated sugar mixture and evenly covering them.

Apple season is well-known. Fall apples are a great thing, whether you go to an orchard and pick a bushel full or purchase fresh Jonagolds at the store.

All of the delightful apple delights that arrive at the same time are just as lovely as the apples themselves. Apple treats are a huge popularity, from apple pies to apple muffins.

So I decided to hide all of the apple and spice taste inside a soft and wonderful fried dough. What’s the end result? Churros with apple cider.

I’m now infatuated with thick, fluffy churros. In fact, when it comes to characterizing my churros, I have a word. It’s a blanket of fluffy clouds. In other words, these apple cider churros are pillowy clouds of fried bliss.
