9 Tips for Hosting a Stress Free Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to gather with family and friends. It’s also a great opportunity to get away from all of your work responsibilities, eat way too much food, and drink enough wine to forget about how you woke up in the morning. There are plenty of reasons that Thanksgiving can be stressful for some people; whether it’s because they don’t have any plans or if their guests are an absolute nightmare. Our host gives 9 tips on what not do when hosting a stress-free Thanksgiving meal this year.

Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays in the United States. It is a time to be thankful and enjoy with family members. The “step-by-step thanksgiving dinner” will help you host a stress free Thanksgiving.

9 Pointers for a Stress-Free Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is without a doubt one of my favorite holidays. But I’d be lying if I claimed it wasn’t a touch nerve-wracking at times. Because there’s a frantic person behind every delicious, Instagram-worthy dinner.

Thanksgiving will be quite different this year than it has been in the past (we are keeping things to immediate family and all getting Covid tests beforehand). Making a feast as guests circulate in and around your kitchen (while wearing masks, of course!) is still a lot of labor.

Now, I’m not one to boast, but after hosting a few Thanksgivings, I believe I’ve broken the code on making the holiday enjoyable and stress-free. And, luckily for you, I’m going to teach you all I know.

However, I must make a confession… I’m getting some support from some very useful (and beautiful) Café Appliances. Dinner gatherings are a breeze with our Café Appliances. There’s no need to worry about running out of fridge space, baking times, or washing heaps of dishes by hand.

There’s plenty of space in our Cafe Appliances French door refrigerator for a whole turkey and all the supplies you’ll need to prepare a delicious holiday feast. The dishwasher is the most powerful I’ve ever used, and it accommodates all of your pots, pans, plates, and cutlery, allowing you to spend more time with your visitors and less time scrubbing dishes. Our Cafe Appliances Double Oven Range is my ultimate favorite. Cooking a turkey in the bottom oven while broiling potatoes in the top oven is possible. It also has a proofing function, which I like to use to keep meals warm. The greatest thing is that you can operate it totally from your smartphone, allowing you to avoid being hooked to the oven for the whole day. A DREAM COME TRUE.

1. Make a food plan ahead of time.

Having a game plan helps things run so much more smoothly on the big day. I like to check in with who’s coming to make sure I’ve covered all of the bases in terms of what everyone likes to eat. If half of your dinner guests are vegetarians, there’s no need to purchase a 15-pound turkey. This will also allow you time to gather all of the necessary ingredients and figure out the cooking timings.

2. Prepare everything you can ahead of time.

Anything you can do ahead of time to prepare is a good idea. I always cut my vegetables, make my turkey brine, and prepare any pie crusts or sweets at least a day ahead of time. Instead of measuring out components for a salad dressing you might have prepared on Tuesday, you may stretch out the effort and enjoy yourself for more of the day.

3. Invite friends over to help you prepare.

In the kitchen, I adore having assistance. A large number of hands can do a lot in a short amount of time. Plus, it’s an opportunity to spend some quality time with your closest friends and family before the rest of the world arrives for the big day.

4. Create a tablescape that is appropriate for the occasion.

So, although we might have gone all out with autumn flowers for our Thanksgiving feast, it’s also OK to keep it simple. My main piece of advice is to make sure your table setting is appropriate for the occasion. Warm neutrals are really gorgeous and easy to work with for Thanksgiving. When in doubt, keep in mind that your meal will cover the majority of the table, so don’t overthink it!

5. Seek assistance

You’re not doing this fully on your own just because you’re hosting. If there’s anything you despise producing, delegate it to someone else! However, when requesting people to bring their own meal, make sure you clarify properly. Otherwise, you’ll wind up with five pumpkin pies and no side dishes.

6. Begin with a fantastic cheeseboard.

Nothing is more annoying than a group of hungry, impatient visitors. I always seem to underestimate the amount of time it takes to cook a turkey. Fortunately, no one will notice if you have a fantastic appetizer spread! With an Instagram-worthy cheeseboard, I can keep everyone occupied. It’s grazeable, quick to put together, and offers something for everyone. On the blog, we have a variety of cheeseboards for you to peruse:

7. Make sure you have a range of beverages on hand.

I prefer to have a variety of drinks on hand, just as I like to have snacks on hand, to keep folks happy while I’m cooking. Make sure you have a variety of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks on hand so that everyone can enjoy themselves! If you’re in the mood for a cocktail (or a wine-cocktail, as the case may be), try this Super Simple Mulled Wine.

8. Double-check that your dishwasher is empty and ready to use.

Dishwashers are, without a doubt, my favorite kitchen gadget. I couldn’t imagine life without mine. Our Café Appliances dishwasher is one of our favorites since it’s very powerful and can handle an entire dinner party’s worth of dishes. Before friends come, I prefer to make sure it’s entirely empty and ready to go so we can fill it up all night and not have to worry about the dishes!

9. Ask everyone to bring a container to store leftovers in.

Make sure everyone brings containers to take food home! This is my #1 favorite thing to do for dinner parties: make sure everyone brings containers to take food home! Everyone will take home a container of whatever their favorite was, and your fridge won’t be overflowing with leftovers you’ll never eat.

Now take a big breath and look forward to a stress-free Christmas season!

Friends, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
